The Nutrition Advisory Committee, Washington .As a physician and a health officer I am vitally interested iQ the health of the people of this country, ine enriched flour and bread programme is one of jttajor importance in accomplishing something construc*Xe to meet the serious dietary deficiencies which exist in this country to-day. Many of you may think nat the American public is well-fed. As a matter of act all of the recent dietary studies made in this ountry indicate very clearly that a large part of our People are getting diets which are below the standards ecegsary majntajn health. It has been reliably Heated that not less than one-third of our entire Population are getting diets which are not entirely adequate. is ^?ther misconception which some of you may have ent Adequate diets in this country are found th t^y *n l?west income groups. While it is true most of the inadequate diets are found in this it has been found that inadequate diets also in tiv* *n^?highest income group. Many of you Hot f ai,djence are probably eating inadequate diets, t from inadequate incomes, but from poor food ection, special diets or lack of knowledge as to ^?\1 should eat.
